Crinoid Fossils Cry, “Flood!”

According to an online story from Science Daily, Feb. 18, 2013, Ancient Fossilized Sea Creatures Yield Oldest Biomolecules Isolated Directly from a Fossil?, original organic materials (aka “soft tissue”) called quinones were recently found in supposedly 350-million-year-old (mya) crinoid fossils found in the Midwestern U.S. However, studies have shown that cells and tissues from once-living things can only survive the animal’s death—even under optimal conditions, like dry, freezing conditions—for tens of thousands of years.[1]

Much like original tissue found in supposedly 68 mya T.rex bones and a supposedly 80 mya mosasaur fossil, these original crinoid compounds, which often serve as pigments or as toxins to discourage predators, join a growing list of evidence that questions the age evolution assigns to such “primitive” fossils. Even worse for Darwinism, these findings are not coming primarily from creation science but from secular evolutionary science, which has yet to come to grips with the data.

Beyond the fact that such tissue can only survive for thousands of years, the Science Daily article also states that the crinoids in which the quinones were found “appear to have been buried alive in storms during the Carboniferous Period, when North America was covered with vast inland seas.” It adds that they were “Buried quickly and isolated from the water above by layers of fine-grained sediment…” So, to paraphrase, apparently these “sea lilies” were buried quickly in sediments by what must have been catastrophic ocean storms. If you didn’t know better you might think it was referring to Noah’s flood! But, of course, that’s impossible because the Flood took place roughly only 4,500 years ago. Either that or  secular science has a lot of explaining to do.

In the face of such evidence, which strongly supports the biblical timeframe for creation about 6,000 years ago, evolutionists continue to cry “bacterial contamination” and/or mislead the public about the ability of anaerobic (oxygen free) conditions to preserve such tissue. In the meantime, they’re hoping against hope to discover some magical natural mechanism to explain how such matter can last for hundreds of millions of years, contrary to their own facts. But hope isn’t science and neither is magic. The obvious conclusion is that these crinoids are crying, “Flood,” as in the worldwide flood of the Bible.
